Competition Terms and Conditions

Disclaimer

In submitting to the AUSSIE STREET 2023 Competition, the entrant agrees to the herein stated Terms and Conditions. These Terms and Conditions constitute a fixed agreement between the entrant and AUSSIE STREET, its organisers, and associates.

WHO CAN ENTER?

Entry is open to anyone the age of 18 and older as of January 1st, 2023.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES

  • The AUSSIE STREET 2023 call for entries begins on December 20th at 12:01 am AEDT ends February 12th, 2023, 11:59 pm AEST.  

  • An extension of the above deadline may be announced at the discretion of the organisers.

  • By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to abide by the Competition Rules and warrants that their submission complies with all requirements set out in the Competition Rules.

Competition Rules

COMPETITION RULES

  • Entrants can submit images by visiting the AUSSIE STREET website https://www.aussiestreetphoto.com/competitions and following the instructions.

  • Entrants must complete both the ENTRY FEE PAYMENT and SUBMISSION of image(s) in order to complete a valid entry to the AUSSIE STREET 2023 Competition. No entries will be considered without following the procedures outlined at in the competition rules.

  • All submitted images must uphold the ethos of ‘street photography’. For detailed stipulations on the constitution of ‘street photography’, entrants should consult: https://in-public.com/street-photography/

  • Photographs taken in any location within the public realm, are acceptable: indoors and outdoors (i.e. city, street, beach, train, park, restaurant, outback, etc.)

  • Photographs can be taken with any camera or in any format (digital, film, mobile etc). Both Colour and Black and White images are accepted.

  • Photographs should not be artificially staged or drastically manipulated in post-production, with the exception of basic darkroom adjustments and/ or their digital equivalents. HDR images will not be accepted. Watermarked images will not be accepted.

  • The entrant shall retain all copyright to their submitted images. Images may be used for promotional and exhibition purposes as outlined in the Terms and Conditions.

  • Each submitted photograph must be the original and sole work of the named entrant submitting that photograph; and the entrant must hold the image’s copyright to submit it to the contest. Published images or images previously entered in other competitions are acceptable. By submitting to the contest, the entrant affirms that their image(s) does not infringe upon the trademarks, intellectual property, or rights of others.

  • There is no limit to the number of photos that can be submitted.

  • There is no restriction as to when the submitted image was created; however, recent work is encouraged.

  • Submitting an entry does not guarantee inclusion in the AUSSIE STREET 2023 Finalist exhibition. Images selected by the judging panel will be exhibited as the ‘AUSSIE STREET 2023 Competition Finalists’.

  • There is no restriction on the number of AUSSIE STREET 2023 Competition Finalist images by the same entrant.

  • The number of Finalist images will be left to the discretion of the Organisers and judges, contingent on the number of entries received.

  • The Organisers of AUSSIE STREET 2023 reserve the right to disqualify any participant or image at their discretion, without notice, for reasons of unsuitable conduct or failure to comply with the stated Competition Rules.

CATEGORIES

  • There are TWO competition categories: SINGLE IMAGE and SERIES

  • Both categories will have finalist exhibitions at the AUSSIE STREET 2023 festival, where prize winners will be announced

  • Entrants are invited to participate in both categories. The categories require separate entries; however, images submitted for the SINGLE IMAGE competition can be used in a SERIES competition submission and vice-versa.

  • Image(s) that were taken in Australia and by an entrant who has been an Australian resident for longer than ONE YEAR (from 15/2/23), are also automatically eligible to be considered for the AUSTRALIAN SINGLE IMAGE AWARD. To be considered for this award, entrants must confirm the eligibility in their entry.

ENTRY FEE

  • SINGLE IMAGE entry fee is AU$20 per image, with discounts for multiple image entry. New entry required for every set of 10 single images submitted

  • SERIES are AU$70 to submit. A new entry must be commenced for each new series entered.

  • Entrant can pay through PayPal or with a Credit Card and are due in full before images are processed or considered for the competition

  • AUSSIE STREET is a non-for-profit endeavour and all entry fees collected will be used to cover exhibition and associated festival costs. By entering the competition, you are supporting our festival.

JUDGING

  • Judging of the AUSSIE STREET 2023 Competition occurs in TWO stages.

  • In STAGE ONE, a panel of highly accomplished photographers will select Finalist images for the SINGLE IMAGE and SERIES Competitions. These images will be printed and exhibited alongside the featured exhibitions of AS2023.

  • In STAGE ONE, all submissions are subject to ‘blind judging’ by the aforementioned judging panel. Ie/ judges will view images only without access to entrant’s name or details.

  • In STAGE TWO, the PRIZE judges will deliberate and select the top three winners from among the Finalist images which will receive the AUSSIE STREET Competition 2023 Prizes.

  • Winners will be announced at the exhibition opening

  • Judges decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into with entrants.  

FINALISTS  

  • After the completion of STAGE ONE of the judging process, selected Finalists will be informed via email.

  • If successful, Finalists will be asked to send a high-resolution .jpg file of their image(s) selected for exhibition printing. Files MUST be received no later than the deadline stipulated by the Organisers in order to be printed in a timely manner for exhibition. Failure to provide requested file(s) by the stipulated date may result in cancellation of Finalist status.

  • Printing and display of Finalists’ images for the exhibition will be provided by AUSSIE STREET at no extra cost to the selected Finalists.

  • Whilst the Organisers of AUSSIE STREET will take care to ensure the integrity and quality of the reproduced Finalist image, the entrant acknowledges that slight variations to printed works may result from adapting the digital file for the printing process.

PRIZES

  • SINGLE IMAGE - Best Street Photograph

    • SINGLE IMAGE Prize pool equivalent to a minimum of AU$1750

  • SINGLE IMAGE - Best AUSTRALIAN Street Photograph

    • SINGLE IMAGE AUS Prize pool equivalent to a minimum of AU$1750

  • SERIES - Best Series

    • SERIES Prize pool equivalent to a minimum of AU$1750

PAYMENTS

  • All entry fee payments for submitted images are non-refundable

  • All entry fee payments must be paid and completed by the Competition deadline for images to be considered for exhibition and prizes

  • All entry fee payments must be finalised and received by AUSSIE STREET to constitute a valid entry

IMAGE USE and data collection

  • All submitted images remain the creative and intellectual property of the photographer.

  • AUSSIE STREET, its Organisers, sponsors and associates may reproduce or utilise entrants’ images in any media format, including but not limited to social media, advertisements, postcards, brochures, posters, television/print media, website and annual reports, only for the purposes of:

    • Publicity and promotion of the Competition and Exhibition

    • The catalogue of the Exhibition

    • Creating a non-commercial archive of the Exhibition

  • AUSSIE STREET will not be required to pay any additional compensation in connection with such uses. The photographer will always be credited, and at no time will your image be used for any purpose other than promotion of the exhibition or Competition.

  • Competition entrants’ data may be collected and collated by the Organisers and their affiliates for marketing purposes and for compiling an opt-in mailing list to update about future events and opportunities.  

 

GENERAL

  • The Organisers of AUSSIE STREET reserve the right to cancel the AUSSIE STREET Competition or modify these terms and conditions at its discretion.

  • At the conclusion of the AUSSIE STREET 2023 Exhibition, all prints will be taken down and placed in storage by the Organisers. All printed matter remains the property of AUSSIE STREET unless otherwise explicitly stated.

  • By entering the AUSSIE STREET 2023 Competition, you release the Organisers, sponsors and associates, and indemnify these parties against all liability, loss, damage or injury arising from or in connection with this Competition, exhibition, or prize.

  • The Organisers, sponsors and associates are not responsible for any issues with ISPs, servers, websites, computer equipment, software, e-mail hosts and providers, that cause technical problems or error(s) with entries. The entrant agrees that the Organisers, sponsors and associates of AUSSIE STREET are hereby indemnified against human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrants’ or any other persons’ ICTs related to or resulting from participation, uploading, or downloading of any materials related to AUSSIE STREET.

 

Workshop terms and conditions

By signing up for the AS2023 workshop, you agree to the following terms and conditions

  • (1) ALL WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD OR OLDER BY 20/3/2023.
  • (2) 100% of workshop tuition fee is due BEFORE the commencement of the workshop. 
  • (3) AUSSIE STREET and the instructors reserve the right to cancel the workshop at any time, for any reason. In this event, participants will receive a 100% refund on any WORKSHOP fees paid minus PayPal fees. 
  • (4) AUSSIE STREET and the instructors reserve the right to reject the application of any participant for any reason. 
  • (5) Workshop fees include tuition ONLY unless stated. Participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, equipment costs, food and beverage costs, and transport expenses. 
  • (6) AUSSIE STREET and the instructors accept no liability for any loss or damage of participants’ equipment or liability for injury, illness or misadventure during the course of the workshop. 
  • (7) The public liability of the participants is their own responsibility as is conducting themselves safely and according to Australian Law at all times. 
  • (8) AUSSIE STREET and the instructors are not responsible for reimbursement of travel expenses in the event of a cancellation. We recommend that you buy refundable air tickets and/or travel insurance. 
  • (9) Cancellations: More than 30 days before workshop begins, participant will receive a 100% refund. Between 29-10 days before workshop begins, participant will receive a 50% refund. Within 10 days of workshop, participants will receive NO refund.
